Our Vision
Saskatchewan credit unions share a common vision of growing communities through innovation, social responsibility and financial strength. As locally-owned financial institutions, we take pride in investing in the dreams that help our members and communities succeed.
Credit unions have provided financial services to Saskatchewan members for over 60 years and throughout those years we have also played a meaningful role in supporting community social programs and economic development initiatives.
Investing in Communities
Saskatchewan credit unions use their resources and network to help make dreams real for communities as well as individuals. Every year, we support a broad range of local initiatives that contribute to community life.
In 2005, we contributed and raised a total of $4.8 million. This total includes $3.2 million in direct sponsorships and donations – or 6% of pre-tax profits, a rate that far exceeds the benchmark of 1% set by the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy’s Imagine program. An additional $1.6 million was contributed through in-kind gifts, scholarships, volunteer activities, reduced service fees and fundraising initiatives.
The organizations and causes we support are as varied as the members and communities we serve. Sports programs, educational activities, economic development initiatives and health care causes are just a few examples. Volunteer contributions are also part of the fabric of credit union life. Our employees contribute thousands of hours of time annually to community projects and fundraisers for organizations like the Children’s Health Foundation, Terry Fox Run and Telemiracle.
Most of our contributions are made locally, but we also have a broad perspective when it comes to giving. In 2005, we made a three-year commitment to help grow soccer programs throughout Saskatchewan and provided long-term funding for the Credit Union EventPlex in Regina – a venue that will attract major trade shows and sporting events to the province. We also support national and international causes through the Canadian Co-operative Association and Co-operative Development Foundation.
Sponsorship Funding
Saskatchewan credit unions are well known for their support of events and important initiatives in their communities. Each credit union is an individual business that demonstrates its community support and social conscience through their local community relations programs.
Organizations seeking sponsorship support for local or regional projects should contact their local credit unions for funding consideration.
SaskCentral also manages a number of sponsorships that Saskatchewan credit unions support collectively. These sponsorships are considered provincial in scope because communities throughout the province benefit. Our current provincial sponsorships include Saskatchewan Soccer, Action Saskatchewan’s The Gathering and Credit Union EventPlex.

Cash donations, sponsorships, scholarships and bursaries are all part of giving back to the community. The causes credit unions support are as varied as the communities they serve. Many also support causes outside their local communities. When disaster strikes, for example, credit unions become collection points for Canadian Red Cross disaster relief. And each year, credit unions throughout the province support the Terry Fox Run, Telemiracle and the Children’s Health Foundation.
Our employees also contribute thousands of hours of volunteer time to community causes.
For credit unions, investing in Saskatchewan communities is both a responsibility and a privilege.
